STEVE EARLE GARNERS EMMY AWARD NOMINATION FOR “THIS CITY;” SONG INCLUDED IN THE SERIES FINALE OF HBO’S ORIGINAL SERIES, TREME

Summer Tour Dates with Electric Hot Tuna Announced

“Steve Earle, Allison Moorer & Friends” Residency at City Winery NYC Begins This Evening

July 8th, 2010 -- New York, NY -- Steve Earle was honored this morning by the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences with an Emmy Award Nomination for his song, “This City” in the Outstanding Original Music and Lyrics Category. The new song closed the season finale of HBO’s critically acclaimed series Treme. Produced by T Bone Burnett and featuring arrangements by Allen Toussaint, “This City” was written specifically for the series. From David Simon (creator of The Wire) and Eric Overmyer (writer/producer of Law & Order), Treme begins in the fall of 2005, three months after Hurricane Katrina’s devastation on the city of New Orleans. The series title refers to one of New Orleans’ oldest neighborhoods and a historically important source of music and culture. The 62nd Primetime Emmy Awards telecast, which will be hosted by Jimmy Fallon, will air on August 29th on NBC. This is Steve Earle’s first Emmy Award Nomination.

As he appeared in the critically acclaimed David Simon series, The Wire, Steve Earle played a recurring character, Harley, a street musician, in three episodes of Treme. When speaking about the brand new song, Steve Earle stated, “David Simon came on the set one day and asked me to write a song that my character would have written in ‘05. The next morning I woke up and wrote it.”

Steve Earle has also announced summer tour dates with Electric Hot Tuna in addition to multiple nights, which begin this evening, in his adoptive hometown of New York City at the City Winery. STREET SWEEPER SOCIAL CLUB TO RELEASE THE GHETTO BLASTER EP AUGUST 10TH

ROLLINGSTONE.COM DEBUT’S 1st ‘SINGLE “PAPER PLANES” (M.I.A. Cover)

PLAYING ROCK THE BELLS, SELECT WARPED TOUR DATES & VOODOO FESTIVAL

July 7th, 2010 -- New York, New York -- Street Sweeper Social Club, the band comprised of Tom Morello (Rage Against The Machine/Audioslave/The Nightwatchman) and Boots Riley (The Coup), return with The Ghetto Blaster EP, out August 10th on SSSC/ILG. It's the follow-up to their 2009 critically acclaimed, self-titled debut. The lead single off the seven song EP is a cover of M.I.A.’s “Paper Planes" which RollingStone.com has available for streaming at  http://tinyurl.com/ssscrs .

Starting today, fans have the opportunity to pre-order The Ghetto Blaster EP at SSSC's own webstore - http://sssc.hasawebstore.com - They'll be able to choose from autographed CD's, vinyl and bundles that include both, plus a limited edition t-shirt. A digital download of "Paper Planes" is available as an instant gratification track with any pre-order.

Tom Morello on the new EP: "On The Ghetto Blaster EP we were shooting for a combo of the first Clash record and the Ohio Players greatest hits, interwoven with tractor trailer size riffs of course. This record definitely has more of a 'band' feel than the first, and Boots’ lyrics and delivery have never been sharper."

Boots Riley on the new EP: "This EP is much more raw, rough, and rugged. We did it in a little studio and got a big sound. We had overflowing, musically violent and beautiful energy in that room - five dudes sweating and bouncing off the walls, and we captured it in the recording. Because of us touring together for the past year, it's a more organic meld of our styles and personalities. The music Tom wrote for this EP will make you go nuts. The covers we did are done with love and our own swagger. I like it better than our last album."

The M.I.A. cover quickly became a fan favorite when they were on the road with Nine Inch Nails and Jane's Addiction last year. After their Coachella performance in April, the LA Times gushed "The Social Club proved something important: that rap and rock, such a treacherous pairing given its history of appealing to the testosterone-heavy, shirtless frat-dudes, can be strong and beautiful, smart and angry." Meanwhile, Spin awarded SSSC's "Paper Planes" rendition at Coachella this year as the festivals "Best Unexpected Cover" in their review.

SSSC will be out on the road in support of the EP playing select Warped Tour dates and all of the Rock The Bells Festival in August with Snoop Dogg, A Tribe Called Quest & Wu-Tang Clan among others.

STEVE EARLE WINS GRAMMY AWARD FOR TOWNES

February 1st, 2010 -- New York, New York -- Steve Earle was honored by the Recording Academy with a Grammy Award for his album, Townes (New West Records) in the Best Contemporary Folk Album category during their 52nd annual ceremony last night in Los Angeles.  This honor marks Earle’s third consecutive Grammy Award win (2004’s The Revolution Starts…Now and 2008’s Washington Square Serenade were both awarded the Grammy in the same category as well).

When speaking about Townes, Earle stated, “This may be one of the best records I’ve ever made.  That hurts a singer-songwriter’s feelings.  Then again, it’s some consolation that I cherry picked through the career of one of the best songwriters that ever lived.”

Townes, a 15-song set, is comprised of songs written by Earle’s friend and mentor, the late singer-songwriter, Townes Van Zandt.  The album debuted at number 19 on the Billboard Top 200 chart, the highest Top 200 debut in his career.  Townes also debuted at #6 on the Billboard Country Chart.  It garnered major worldwide critical acclaim, receiving 4 stars in Uncut, 4 out of 5 stars in The Sunday Express (UK), 3 out of 4 Stars in USA Today and 8 out of 10 stars in Spin magazine which claimed that “…he does his idol justice.”  Of the songs, Rolling Stone stated that Earle “…delivers them with the ease of breathing…” and in Best Life magazine, Anthony DeCurtis stated that the album is “beautiful and scarifying.”  Townes features guest appearances by Tom Morello (Rage Against The Machine/Street Sweeper Social Club/The Nightwatchman), Earle’s wife, singer-songwriter Allison Moorer, and his son, Justin Townes Earle.

Allison Moorer Featured in The People Speak

Presented by The History Channel This Sunday, December 13th

New Album Crows Anticipated February 9th on Ryko

December 10th, 2009 – New York, New York - Allison Moorer, who is set to release her Ryko debut, Crows, on February 9th, 2010, will make a special appearance in The History Channel documentary, The People Speak, this Sunday, December 13th at 8/7pm Central. The Grammy and Academy Award nominated singer-songwriter performs a stirring rendition of the Great Depression anthem, "Brother, Can You Spare A Dime," in this poignant film inspired by Howard Zinn’s best-seller A People's History of the United States. Through a series of dramatized readings and performances by Morgan Freeman, Bruce Springsteen, Matt Damon, Eddie Vedder, John Legend, Rosario Dawson, Josh Brolin and many more, The People Speak reenacts extraordinary stories of everyday Americans who helped shape our democracy.

Moorer is no stranger to Zinn’s work.  In 2008, she starred in Rebel Voices, a theatrical adaptation of Howard Zinn and Anthony Arnove’s book Voices of a People’s History of the United States. The play combated hopelessness by igniting the forces responsible for arousing change in the past and thus celebrating the indomitable human spirit.

In The People Speak, Moorer sings a heartrending acoustic version of Yip Harburg and Jay Gorney’s "Brother, Can You Spare A Dime." This pivotal 1930’s anthem candidly speaks of the average citizen’s day-to-day struggle during that period and achieved popularity after it was sung by Bing Crosby.

Following the premiere, Moorer anticipates the release of her eagerly awaited album Crows on February 9th, 2010. Produced by R.S. Field (Buddy Guy, John Mayall), the 13-track album is a refined and lyrically honest collection of songs that is a marked stylistic departure from her previous work. Crows is the follow up to her critically acclaimed 2008 album, Mockingbird, which was a celebration of songs composed by a stunning cast of female songwriters including Nina Simone, Patti Smith, Cat Power, her sister Shelby Lynne, and more. It also follows Moorer’s first Grammy Award Nomination for the song “Days Aren’t Long Enough,” a composition she co-wrote with her husband, Steve Earle, for his Grammy Award Winning 2007 album Washington Square Serenade.

DAVID BROZA TO RELEASE NIGHT DAWN: THE UNPUBLISHED POETRY OF TOWNES VAN ZANDT, FEBRUARY 23rd, 2010 VIA S-CURVE RECORDS

Album lyrics contain 11 previously unreleased works written by Townes Van Zandt

December 3rd, 2009 -- New York, New York -- David Broza is set to release Night Dawn: The Unpublished Poetry of Townes Van Zandt, February 23rd, 2010 via S-Curve Records.  The 12-song set was produced by David Broza and G.E. Smith (Hall & Oates, Saturday Night Live) and features 10 previously unreleased lyrics and poems written by the late Townes Van Zandt -- one cover of the last song Van Zandt wrote for David and one instrumental Broza wrote for Van Zandt.

David Broza met Van Zandt when the pair played a “Writers in the Round” show in Houston, TX in 1994.  It was the only time the two played together and they did not remain in touch afterwards.  On New Years Day, 1997, Van Zandt tragically passed away and shortly after, Broza was alerted that Townes had mysteriously endowed him a shoebox full of unpublished poetry and lyrics.  “I was dumbstruck,” Broza recalls.  “Why me?  I never really talked to Townes.  We played together one night.  That was it.”  After Van Zandt’s death, his widow, Jeanene Van Zandt, requested Broza to not take the poems, but let her present them to Townes’ fans like Bob Dylan, Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings and others.  Eight years later, after never surfacing, Broza asked for them and started a four year process writing music for 10 of the unseen works.  Broza then finished an 11th, “Harms Swift Way,” from a Van Zandt demo.  He then composed an original instrumental, “Too Old to Die Young,” as a tribute to Van Zandt that closes the album.  More than a decade after initially being given to Broza, Van Zandt’s unpublished poems and lyrics will now be heard for the first time.

While speaking to Billboard magazine regarding Night Dawn, Broza offered, “It was very mysterious and very sweet and very challenging.”  He added, “It’s like something I have never experienced before.  I’m just beginning to understand what’s happening here -- that it’s happening.  I only hope I’ve done those lyrics justice, turning that poetry into song as Townes would have liked.”

David Broza was raised and educated in Israel, Spain and England.  As a multi-platinum artist over the past three decades, he has positioned himself as an international artist, releasing records in Hebrew, Spanish and English. While he is known primarily in Israel, Spain and America as a balladeer, he’s also an accomplished classical guitarist.  Over the years, Broza has been a soldier, a peace activist, one of the founders of the Israeli peace group Peace Now, a teacher, an artist-in-residence at Bennington College in Vermont, an ambassador of goodwill for UNICEF and has literally circled the globe numerous times performing his music.  Making his recorded debut in 1978, Broza has released a total of 25 recordings including 15 solo, studio albums, four live albums, three anthologies and three as a member of a band.  He also released the acclaimed David Broza at Masada DVD in 2007, which featured Jackson Browne and Shawn Colvin that received support from PBS.

Field (Buddy Guy, John Mayall) at the House of David Studio in Nashville, TN, the 13-track album is a refined and lyrically honest collection of songs that is a marked stylistic departure from her previous work.  Crows is the anticipated follow up to her critically acclaimed 2008 album, Mockingbird, which was a celebration of songs composed by a stunning cast of female songwriters including Nina Simone, Patti Smith, Cat Power, her sister Shelby Lynne, and more.   It also follows Moorer’s first Grammy Award Nomination for the song “Days Aren’t Long Enough,” a composition she co-wrote with her husband, Steve Earle, for his Grammy Award Winning 2007 album Washington Square Serenade.

Speaking with Billboard Magazine regarding Crows, Moorer stated “I really just set myself free and just threw all the rules out the window.” Regarding the album’s title, Moorer offered “We have crows in the yard at our place up in Woodstock. I am a little obsessed with birds, and have been told that they are indeed our messengers from the other side.  So I decided that instead of letting the crows make me uneasy, I would start to consider them as friendlies, and that they were actually bringing me a message of comfort.”

Ruby Marchand, head of A&R for Ryko, stated “Ryko is enormously proud to welcome Allison Moorer to our family of artists.  Allison’s extraordinarily evocative songs and vocal style capture her unique signature in the singer/songwriter community.  With the February 2010 release of Crows, Ryko celebrates the beginning of a worldwide relationship with Allison through an album of astonishing breadth and scope.”

Moorer’s 1998 song, “A Soft Place To Fall,” was included on the soundtrack to the feature film The Horse Whisperer, which led to an appearance in the film itself, as well as an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Song.  The opportunity gained her worldwide attention and set the stage for her career.  Since, Moorer has been featured on releases by Joan Baez, Kid Rock, The Chieftains, and Los Straightjackets. She was seen in 2008 starring in Rebel Voices, a play based on Howard Zinn and Anthony Arnove’s best-selling book Voices of a People’s History of the United States.  The play combated hopelessness by igniting the forces responsible for arousing change and celebrating the indomitable human spirit.  On December 13th, 2009, Moorer will be seen in The People Speak, a beautiful and moving film inspired by A People’s History of the United States, and Voices of A People’s History of the United States.  The film, presented by The History Channel, also features Bob Dylan, Morgan Freeman, Bruce Springsteen, Danny Glover, Matt Damon, John Legend, Rosario Dawson, Josh Brolin, Benjamin Bratt and more.

THE CRANBERRIES TO TOUR FOR THE FIRST TIME IN SEVEN YEARS

19-Date Tour presented by Guesstimation; the party game where the closest guess wins.

September 23rd, 2009 - New York, New York - Dolores O’Riordan and the original members of The Cranberries will reform for the first time in nearly seven years for a live tour.  “I’ve decided to reunite with my former band members in The Cranberries and we will be writing new songs and performing tracks off my new album as well as our greatest hits during the shows.  I’d love to see you out there.” O’Riordan stated. Guitarist and co-songwriter Noel Hogan offered “Over the last few years, each member of the band has had time to work on different projects and learn so much from their experience.  Now the time is right for The Cranberries to bring all of this together and move forward.” The 19-date tour is set to begin in Baltimore, MD on November 12th and is presented by Guesstimation; the party game where the closest guess wins.

In January, O’Riordan played a set at Dublin’s Trinity College with band members and brothers Noel and Mike Hogan to commemorate her being made an Honorary Patron of Trinity’s Philosophical Society.  The performance was the first time the band members had seen each other since 2003.   Never officially broken up, the band instead has been on hiatus, and being in the same room and playing music together for the first time made them realize how much they had missed each other.

Dolores O’Riordan has also released her solo album, No Baggage, via Zoe/Rounder Records in the U.S. and Canada and via Cooking Vinyl for the rest of the world..  With No Baggage, O’Riordan’s unforgettable, distinguished voice is back and better than ever.  She co-produced and wrote all of the tracks on the album with Ontario- based Dan Brodbeck, resulting in a bright, clean sound that finds the singer’s astoundingly emotive voice front and center, be it on the gorgeous piano ballad “Lunatic,” the forthright, rocking track “Be Careful,”  or the infectious, driving lead single, “The Journey.”

“I probably haven’t worn my heart on my sleeve like this since the second Cranberries album (1994’s No Need To Argue),” she says. “It’s at times very confessional and dealing with my true emotions.  Everyone, through their experiences or their background, has had terrible moments where they think they can’t  handle it.  With this record I’m trying to show that, no matter how bad things may seem, it’s not really that bad in the big picture.” says O’Riordan.

Guesstimation, distributed by Discovery Bay Games, is unlike traditional trivia games, you don’t have to know the exact answer to win the game.  During each round, a question is read and everyone writes down their answer.  For example, how many women go into labor on the New York City subway each year?  After everyone has made their guess, the answer is revealed and the closest guess wins the round (Answer: 80).  Guesstimation (2+ players, ages 8+) is available at Barnes & Noble Booksellers and Toys R Us stores nationwide and online at Barnes & Noble.com (www.bn.com) and toysrus.com

Led by “Linger,” The Cranberries debut album Everybody Else Is Doing It, hit #1 in Britain. Follow-up No Need to Argue cemented the group’s popularity via such popular tracks as “Zombie,” “Ridiculous Thoughts,” and “Ode to My Family,” ultimately being certified 7x Platinum in the U.S. and 5x platinum in Europe (hitting # 1 in Germany, Austria, and Australia, and # 2 in the U.K.).  The Cranberries had four top 20 Billboard albums, 8 hit singles, and worldwide sales of over 40 million records.  The Cranberries have performed on several television shows such as The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, and The Late Show with David Letterman, and appeared on many magazine covers including Rolling Stone and Spin Magazine.

BEN LEE REFORMS NOISE ADDICT WITH LOU BARLOW OF DINOSAUR JR./SEBADOH AND LARA MEYERRATKEN OF EL MAY; NEW ALBUM IT WAS NEVER ABOUT THE AUDIENCE RELEASED TODAY FOR FREE DOWNLOAD

Full Album Available at http://noiseaddict.net

September 1st, 2009 -- New York, New York -- Ben Lee has reformed Noise Addict with Lou Barlow of Dinosaur Jr./Sebadoh and Lara Meyerratken of El May.  Their new 15-song album, It Was Never About The Audience, was released today for free download via http//noiseaddict.net.   It is the first music bearing the Noise Addict name in 13 years since the release of the debut full length album, Meet The Real You, released via Grand Royal in 1996.

Ben Lee offered “I’ve wanted to make another Noise Addict record for awhile now.  Noise Addict is a place more than a band.  But it’s a band too.  This record was inspired by out of tune guitars, Jonathan Richman, and lasagne…not the actual pasta - just the word.”  He added, “The new lineup on this recording is me, Lou Barlow and Lara Meyerratken.  That’s a new lineup for the band, but the principle remains the same: everything recorded quickly, in my bedroom, with lots of stupid rules like no mic-stands.  The songs were all written by me except ‘Lasagne,’ which I co-wrote with my step-daughter Kate.”

Noise Addict was formed in Bondi Beach, Australia in 1992 by a then 13-year old Ben Lee.  After opening for Fugazi the same year, their demo tape was passed on to Sonic Youth’s Thurston Moore, who officially released the recording, known as DEF, on his Ecstatic Peace label in 1993.   The Beastie Boys Mike D then signed the band to their Grand Royal imprint and released the Young and Jaded EP in 1995.  That release featured the Evan Dando-inspired track “I Wish I Was Him.”  The same year, Lee issued his solo debut, the critically acclaimed Grandpaw Would LP.  In 1996, Grand Royal issued Noise Addict’s full length debut album, Meet The Real You.  The group disbanded soon after their first and only tour of the U.S.

To date, Ben Lee has released seven solo albums, most recently this year’s The Rebirth of Venus, released via Dew Process in Australia and New Zealand and New West Records in the rest of the world.

It Was Never About The Audience Tracklisting:
1. That’s How It Goes
2. Do I Know You
3. Get Well
4. Chris Martin’s Frown
5. Big Ups
6. Drop That Ghost

8. Lasagne
9. Faster Side of Normal
10. Let Your Heart Decide It

DOLORES O’RIORDAN AND THE ORIGINAL MEMBERS OF THE CRANBERRIES TO REFORM FOR TOUR; SOLO ALBUM, NO BAGGAGE, RELEASED TODAY

August 25th, 2009 - New York, New York - Dolores O’Riordan and the original members of The Cranberries have announced that they will reform for the first time in nearly seven years for a live tour.  “I’ve decided to reunite with my former band members in The Cranberries and we will be writing new songs and performing tracks off my new album as well as our greatest hits during the shows.  I'd love to see you out there.” O’Riordan stated. Guitarist and co-songwriter Noel Hogan offered “Over the last few years, each member of the band has had time to work on different projects and learn so much from their experience.  Now the time is right for The Cranberries to bring all of this together and move forward.”

Touring will begin at the end of the year in North America and make its way to Europe in early 2010 with dates announced shortly.

Dolores O’Riordan has also released her solo album, No Baggage, today via Zoe/Rounder Records.

The Cranberries are Dolores O'Riordan, Noel Hogan, Mike Hogan, and Fergal Lawler.

THE GRATES TO CO-HEADLINE FALL TOUR WITH THOSE DARLINS; TEETH LOST, HEARTS WON TO BE RELEASED SEPTEMBER 15th VIA DEW PROCESS/THIRTY TIGERS

PERFORMANCE AT THE MONOLITH MUSIC FESTIVAL AT RED ROCKS, SEPTEMBER 13th WITH ADDITIONAL DATES WITH MOST SERENE REPUBLIC CONFIRMED

August 20th, 2009 -- New York, New York --  Australia’s The Grates are set to release their anticipated sophomore album Teeth Lost, Hearts Won on September 15th via Thirty Tigers/Dew Process.  The 13-song album was produced by Peter Katis (Interpol, The National) at Tarquin Studios in Connecticut and features guest appearances by Kori Gardner of Mates of State (vocals on “Milk Eyes“) and Tim Fite (vocals on “Not Today”).   On this album, the follow up to their 2006 Interscope Records debut, Gravity Won’t Get You High, The Grates have brought a depth and density to the songwriting - the lyrics are raw and poignant and the sonics more biting and aggressive.

If Teeth Lost, Hearts Won was a beast, I imagine it’d be like something from Where The Wild Things Are,” lead singer and front woman Patience says. “They’re big and scary, but they’ve also got this sensitivity, and pick up the little kid and protect him.”  Drummer Alana adds, “Or maybe like the griffin In Alice In Wonderland.  He’s like a lion and eagle together, but a really gentle creature.”

The band, who have recently relocated to Brooklyn, NY in order to make American touring easier, have confirmed a co-headlining tour with Those Darlins in October.  Fresh off a completely sold out residency in New York City and various dates supporting Passion Pit, the band have also confirmed a performance at the Monolith Music Festival at Red Rocks on September 13th (Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Phoenix, Mars Volta, etc) with additional live dates with Most Serene Republic.

In Australia, The Grates have played numerous sold out headline tours, played major festivals such as Big Day Out, Homebake, Falls Festival, Southbound and stole the show at Splendour In The Grass.  Gravity Won’t Get You High has gone Gold in Australia while Teeth Lost, Hearts Won is well on its way to Gold status as well.

The American record release follows a highly successful trip to the U.S. for the SXSW Music Festival in March.  While in Austin, the band played five buzzed about shows in four days and gained a massive amount of recognition for their highly energetic performances. USA Today named the band one of ten favorite performances of the festival, stating “Lead singer Patience Hodgson blew me away with her enthusiasm…a hardcore fan suddenly appeared, dressed in a leotard, and joined her for a spontaneous dance…these are the SXSW moments you dream of.”  The Los Angeles Times added, “The Grates are a group that are impossible not to smile with…(they) will no doubt soon be laughing their way to the bank, for if the world embraced the Ting Tings last year, Patience & Co. are sure to be everyone’s new darlings any day now.” The Austin Chronicle said of the album, “Full marks go to Aussie trio The Grates for not over thinking things and executing them almost flawlessly on new LP Teeth Lost, Hearts Won.  When you rock with that kind of abandon, wearing a batgirl costume onstage works.” The highly successful trip was capped off with multiple sold out shows in New York and Los Angeles.

The Grates Are Available For Interviews.

A Camp Set to Release Covers EP on Nettwerk
Available Exclusively in North America on iTunes June 9 and All Digital Service Providers June 16

North American Tour Kicks Off Today in New York City at the Bowery Ballroom!

New York, NY – As A Camp kick off their first North American tour today at the Bowery Ballroom in New York City in support of their North American debut album, Colonia, the band announces the release of their Covers EP on Nettwerk exclusively in North America through iTunes on June 9.  The Covers EP features three cover tracks from a few of their favorite artists: Pink Floyd, David Bowie and Grace Jones; the EP is available on all digital service providers on June 16.

A Camp explains in their own words why they chose to cover these three songs/artists:

“US + THEM”:  By Pink Floyd of course, is one of the most beautiful songs imaginable. The only reason we thought we could approach this one at all is it just seemed to sit perfectly within our musical vocabulary and we thought Nina’s voice could perhaps add another dimension to this already brilliant piece of music.  There’s a reason why Dark Side of the Moon is one of the most popular albums of all time.  It’s an absolutely timeless work.  This track could go on forever; it’s like a wonderful dream.

“BOYS KEEP SWINGING”:  Who doesn’t love Bowie?  He’s given us so much...and again we thought it would be rocking to hear this particular track come out of a girl’s mouth.  We think it lends the song a different angle.  Plus at this point it’s the loudest thing in our live set and is a massive energy release.  It’s a totally catchy song as well and it’s like Bowie just said to hell with it and recorded things in the most train-wrecked non-commercial way he could come up with, almost guaranteeing its commercial failure back in ‘79.  Fantastic...off of his Lodger record, which is packed with excellent songs.

“DONE IT AGAIN”:  Grace Jones did this originally on her Nightclubbing album (pull up to my bumper baby!), and it’s a hot track.  We were drawn initially to the bizarre very smart lyrics from the outset and also that the Swedish soprano Jenny Lind is name-checked, that HAS to be the only instance of that in pop music.  The time-travel/“ZELIG” tone to the words made a lot of sense as well as that’s kind of our vibe with Colonia.  And we dug the sweet cocaine, studio-in-Barbados groove.  The song manages to simultaneously seem nearly asleep and yet totally insane (in the best way), full of this world-weary sadness, plus a rage deep in there somewhere...not unlike Grace herself!  As it happens we were on tour recently in Europe about a day behind her, so would see fresh traces of her along our journey, it was spooky and fun.  We don’t believe she really exists.  This track has become a fan fave in our live show.  It’s got that Bosso flav; and Nina gets to bust out her magic claves!

A Camp–featuring of Nina Persson (The Cardigans), Nathan Larson (Shudder to Think) and Niclas Frisk (Atomic Swing)—released their debut album Colonia last month to critical acclaim. Rolling Stone said, “[Persson] luxuriates in brooding isolation, orchestral drift and heartsick melodies that recall Sixties girl groups and the Carpenters,” while Spin called the album “Beguiling, gorgeous stuff – and smartly funny too.”

Their first North American tour begins today at the Bowery Ballroom in New York City and takes them across the country through 12 major cities, ending in Los Angeles on June 15 at The Troubadour.

Covers EP track list:
1. Us and Them (Pink Floyd cover)
2. Boys Keep Swinging (David Bowie cover)
3. I’ve Done it Again (Grace Jones cover)

IAN HUNTER, LEGENDARY MOTT THE HOOPLE FRONTMAN AND RENOWNED SOLO ARTIST SIGNS TO NEW WEST RECORDS

MAN OVERBOARD TO BE RELEASED JULY 21st

Original Mott The Hoople Lineup Confirms Five 40th Anniversary Reunion Shows in London at the HMV Hammersmith Apollo

May 19, 2009 -- New York, New York -- Legendary Mott the Hoople front man and renowned solo artist, Ian Hunter, has signed to New West Records.  Man Overboard, due July 21st, is Mr. Hunter’s anticipated follow up to his critically acclaimed solo album, 2007’s Shrunken Heads (his first release after a 6 year gap).

With Mott the Hoople, Ian Hunter quickly established himself as an incredibly inventive songwriter with his gritty and thought provoking songs which paved the way for the original wave of punk rock.  The 1972 David Bowie produced breakthrough album All The Young Dudes catapulted the band into the British Top 10 and the American Top 40.  Additionally, the band was the first act to ever sell out a week of Broadway concerts in New York City. Ian Hunter’s autobiography, Diary Of A Rock and Roll Star, written during the band’s 1972 US Tour and published in 1974, was also acclaimed by Q Magazine as “the greatest music book ever written.”  The original Mott The Hoople lineup of Ian Hunter, Mick Ralphs, Verden Allen, Dale Griffin and Overend Watts have announced five 40th anniversary reunion shows at the HMV Hammersmith Apollo in London on October 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 5th and 6th.

As a solo artist, Mr. Hunter has been responsible for instantly recognizable classics as “Once Bitten, Twice Shy,” “Cleveland Rocks” (which went on to be the theme song for ABC’s hit series The Drew Carey Show), and many, many more.  Both Ian Hunter and Mott the Hoople have been cited as major inspirations for numerous artists including The Clash, Kiss, R.E.M., Oasis, Jeff Tweedy of Wilco, Motley Crue, Blur and Primal Scream among others. Hunter’s influence on modern rock and roll music has been immeasurable, with over 150 different cover versions of his songs.

Man Overboard is Ian Hunter’s 13th solo album since his eponymous debut in 1975.  Recorded in late 2008 in Pawling, NY, the 11-song set is a stunning follow up to the overwhelmingly critically acclaimed Shrunken Heads album. Man Overboard was produced by Andy York (veteran guitarist for John Mellencamp) and Ian Hunter and features a backing band of superstar talent comprised of Steve Holley on drums and percussion (Wings, Joe Cocker), Paul Page on bass (Dion), Jack Petruzzelli on electric guitar (Rufus Wainwright, Joan Osbourne), James Mastro on electric guitar (Patti Smith, John Cale), Andy Burton on piano and organ (The Db’s) and Producer Andy York on guitar and backing vocals. Many of the band members are returning from the Shrunken Heads sessions.  Regarding Man Overboard, Ian Hunter stated, “When we did Shrunken Heads, I felt like we had a good thing going so I wanted to revisit the experience before anything changed, and that’s what we did.”

Ian Hunter has worked with many musical legends such as the members of Queen, David Bowie, Mick Jones of The Clash, Bruce Springsteen’s E Street Band, Mick Ronson and Ringo Starr’s All Star Band.

RHETT MILLER TO RELEASE SELF-TITLED SOLO ALBUM ON SHOUT! FACTORY RECORDS

Album In Stores June 9th - National Summer Tour To Follow

Rhett Miller will be releasing a collection of new songs on June 9th, his fourth solo album and the first on Shout! Factory.  The self-titled album will thrill fans with an up-close and personal journey through Rhett’s dark heart and complicated mind - all set to the kind of rollicking tunes for which he’s known.  The album is the darkest of Rhett’s deep catalog of releases, and is a personal triumph both lyrically and sonically.

Rhett says:
My approach to songwriting has always been to take a heavy subject and put it to a bouncy tune.  This record takes that trick to the next level. Don’t get me wrong, there are some rays of sunshine on the album, but there is a lot of deep night. The death of my grandmother, the suicide of my hero, David Foster Wallace.  In my head, I was sort of in a dark place when I made this record. It’s still a fun record to listen to.  It’s a fine line you gotta walk, right?

Rhett penned all the songs on the record with the exception of “If It’s Not Love,” which was co-written with Matt Scannell.  Rhett Miller was produced by Salim Nourallah, who also produced the latest critically acclaimed Old 97’s release, 2008’s Blame It On Gravity.    The exciting new 12-song set also features multi-instrumentalist and producer, Jon Brion on guitar and bass, The Apples In Stereo’s John Dufilho on drums and Billy Harvey on guitar.  While speaking to Billboard Magazine about the album, Rhett stated “Every musician I hired was a producer.  All these people could have easily produced this record themselves.”  While the album was initially planned as a stripped-down, acoustic record, with the help of his stellar backing band, it quickly turned into one of huge sonic scope.

Of the album’s most rocking track, Rhett says:
"Happy Birthday Don’t Die” came to me in a fevered rush the morning before I headed to Texas to make the record.  The whole story was there in my head when I woke up.  This weird sci-fi portrait of a little old lady buried in the catacombs of some colony planet celebrating her one-hundredth birthday by dying.  Writing that song was like speaking in tongues, very strange. Not all the songs on the album are so far-flung, "Sometimes" came out of hearing my two-year-old daughter singing to herself in her crib one morning.  I took her little tune and fleshed it out into first a chorus and then a whole song.

Elsewhere on the album, one finds the quirky details that are a hallmark of Rhett’s songwriting.  The “comedy club” in “I Need To Know Where I Stand” sounds suspiciously similar to LA’s famed Café Largo where Rhett has played regularly over the years.  In the same song, we find “the Hamlet of Wallkill,” a town in the Hudson Valley near where the song’s author resides.  But it’s the simple statements of grand truths that set this album apart from Rhett’s earlier work.  Take, for instance, the following line from “Like Love.”  “We are all alone in this world/from cradle to grave/and maybe after that.”  A bitter little sentiment, but dropped into the middle of a fun, foot-stomper of a song, it’s a testament to the years Rhett has  spent honing his craft.

For those who don't know Rhett as well, while maintaining his career with the Old 97’s, Austin-born Rhett has also released three previous solo albums, Mythologies, recorded during his junior year in high school and produced by future Old 97’s co-founder, Murry Hammond, in 1989, 2002’s The Instigator, and The Believer in 2006. While based in Dallas, Rhett and Murry formed Old 97’s in 1993.  With their effortless combination of rock, power-pop and country, the band quickly became one of the most acclaimed and beloved bands to spring from the 90s indie rock scene.  They have released seven powerhouse studio albums to date.

Well-known as an explosive live act both solo and with the band, Rhett and the Old 97’s will be on tour throughout the summer and fall.  Many of these shows will be billed as “An Evening With…,” and will feature an opening solo set by Rhett during which he will perform songs from the new album and favorites from his solo catalog.

STEVE EARLE TO RELEASE TOWNES MAY 12th VIA NEW WEST RECORDS; 15-SONG SET COMPRISED OF SONGS WRITTEN BY THE LEGENDARY SINGER-SONGWRITER, TOWNES VAN ZANDT

FEATURES GUEST APPEARANCES BY TOM MORELLO, ALLISON MOORER AND, APPEARING ON A STEVE EARLE RECORD FOR THE FIRST TIME,
JUSTIN TOWNES EARLE

“Townes Van Zandt is the best songwriter in the whole world and I'll stand on Bob Dylan's coffee table in my cowboy boots and say that.” - Steve Earle (1995)
March 9, 2009 - New York, New York -- Steve Earle is set to release Townes, his highly anticipated follow up to the Grammy Award winning album Washington Square Serenade, on May 12th via New West Records.  The 15-song set is comprised of songs written by Earle’s friend and mentor, the late singer-songwriter, Townes Van Zandt.  Townes will also be available as a deluxe two-CD set, as well as double Limited Edition 180 gram vinyl.

The album was produced by Earle at his home in Greenwich Village, at Sound Emporium and Room and Board in Nashville, TN and The Nest in Hollywood, CA.  The track “Lungs,” was produced and mixed by the Dust Brothers’ John King and features Tom Morello of Rage Against the Machine/The Nightwatchman/Street Sweeper Social Club on electric guitar.  Earle’s wife, the acclaimed singer-songwriter Allison Moorer, is featured on backing vocals on “Loretta” and “To Live Is To Fly.”  Three songs cut in Nashville, “White Freightliner Blues,” “Delta Momma Blues,” and “Don’t Take It Too Bad” feature a bluegrass band consisting of Dennis Crouch, Tim O’Brien, Darrel Scott and Shad Cobb.

Earle met Townes Van Zandt in 1972 at one of Earle’s performances at The Old Quarter in Houston, TX.  Van Zandt was in the audience and playfully heckled Earle throughout the performance to play the song “Wabash Cannonball.” Earle admitted that he didn’t know how to play the tune and Van Zandt replied incredibly, “You call yourself a folksinger and you don’t know ‘Wabash Cannonball?’”  Earle then silenced him by playing the Van Zandt song “Mr. Mudd and Mr. Gold,” not an easy feat due to its quickly-paced mouthful of lyrics squeezed into just over two minutes of song.  Their bond was immediately formed.  On Townes, Earle and his son, singer-songwriter Justin Townes Earle (named after Van Zandt) trade verses on the tune, a song the two of them have been playing together since Justin was a teenager.

The songs selected for Townes were the ones that meant the most to Earle and the ones he personally connected to (not including selections featured on previous Earle albums).  Some of the selections chosen were songs that Earle has played his entire career (“Pancho and Lefty,” “Lungs,” “White Freightliner Blues”) and others he had to learn specifically for recording.  He learned the song “(Quicksilver Daydreams of) Maria” directly from Van Zandt, and taught himself “Marie” and “Rake” specifically for the album’s recording.  Once a song he played during his live show, Earle relearned “Colorado Girl” in the original Open D tuning that Van Zandt played it in.  Earle recorded the New York sessions solo and then added the other instruments later on in order to preserve the spirit of Van Zandt’s original solo performances to the best of his recollection.

When speaking about Townes, Earle stated, “This may be one of the best records I’ve ever made.  That hurts a singer-songwriter’s feelings. Then again, it’s some consolation that I cherry picked through the career of one of the best songwriters that ever lived.”

Townes Van Zandt’s debut album, For The Sake Of The Song, was released in 1968.  His last, No Deeper Blue appeared in 1995. His life and songs are the subject of the critically acclaimed 2006 documentary film, Be Here To Love Me.  Van Zandt died in 1997 at the age of 52.

While being a protégé of Van Zandt, Earle is a master storyteller in his own right, with his songs being recorded by Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Emmylou Harris, Waylon Jennings, Travis Tritt, The Pretenders, Joan Baez and countless others.  1986 saw the release of his debut record, Guitar Town, which shot to number one of the country charts and immediately established the term “New Country.” What followed was an extremely exciting array of twelve releases including the biting hard rock of Copperhead Road (1988), the minimalist beauty of Train A Comin’ (1995), the politically charged masterpiece Jerusalem (2002) and the Grammy Award Winning albums The Revolution Starts…Now (2004) and Washington Square Serenade (2007). Earle also produced the Grammy nominated album, Day After Tomorrow, by the legendary Joan Baez in 2008.

TOM MORELLO AND BOOTS RILEY JOIN FORCES TO FORM
STREET SWEEPER SOCIAL CLUB

DEBUT TOUR CONFIRMED WITH NINE INCH NAILS AND JANE’S ADDICTION

March 9th, 2009 -- New York, New York -- Tom Morello and Boots Riley have joined forces to form the new musical group, Street Sweeper Social Club.  The group recently wrapped recording sessions for their forthcoming debut album and their first tour ever will be opening all dates in North America on the Nine Inch Nails and Jane’s Addiction May-June Tour (confirmed dates below).  The tour will find Nine Inch Nails and Jane’s Addiction sharing a stage for the first time since the debut of the Lollapalooza festival in 1991 (as well as the first tour by the original lineup of Jane’s Addiction in seventeen years).

“It’s revolutionary party jams,” said Morello of Street Sweeper Social Club.  “It’s got huge steamroller riffs combined with depth, charge, funk, while Boots unloads clip after clip of incendiary rhymes rich with satire and venom.”  Riley added, “This is a time when the working class is being fleeced left and right. More families will be homeless and more people will be jobless.  They’ll need something to listen to on their iPods while storming Wall Street.”

BEN LEE PAYS TRIBUTE TO FEMININITY WITH THE REBIRTH OF VENUS
NEW ALBUM IN STORES FEBRUARY 10th, 2009 FROM NEW WEST RECORDS

PORTION OF PROCEEDS FROM ALBUMS SOLD TO BE DONATED TO FINCA’S VILLAGE BANKING PROGRAM SUPPORTING THE WORLD’S LOWEST-INCOME WOMEN IN ENTREPRENEURIAL EFFORTS

November 18th, 2008 -- New York, New York -- Ben Lee dedicates his seventh studio recording to Venus, the Goddess of Love and Beauty.  A bold move for a man, but Ben recognizes that the strongest feminine qualities “such as compassion, nurturing, creativity, spontaneity, intuition, playfulness, tenderness and warmth…are qualities that we all, men and women, need to cultivate.”  The Rebirth of Venus (February 10th, 2009) was produced by Brad Wood, who also produced Ben’s breakout Awake Is The New Sleep (as well as his critically acclaimed debut Grandpaw Would and sophomore album Something To Remember Me By).  A portion of proceeds from albums sold will be donated to FINCA’s Village Banking program.  FINCA offers financial services, not charity, to the world’s lowest-income women entrepreneurs.  This creates jobs, builds assets and generally improves the standard of living in these destitute communities.

The album’s cover re-creates Botticelli’s Birth of Venus, but with a rock and roll twist.  Ben is featured in the clamshell with fiancé Ione Skye and band mates as angels above him.  Other musicians who appear on the album include Missy Higgins, Cary Brothers, Patience Hodgson of The Grates, Nic Johns, John Alagia (producer of Ripe) and longtime collaborators and musicians Lara Meyerratken and Nic Johns.

Ben wears his heart on his sleeve in his songs as PASTE magazine describes of Awake Is The New Sleep, “…Lee has become a writer so adept at communicating his personality through song, that it’s easy to feel like you know him after just a few listens.”  With The Rebirth of Venus, Ben continues to let listeners get to know him while exploring the balance between masculine and feminine nature.  One song on the album that exemplifies this quest is “I’m A Woman Too.”  Ben urges that “until we recognize that we are all made up of the same stuff, we are bound to keep hurting each other.”

The Rebirth of Venus’ first single, “What’s So Bad (About Feeling Good),” showcases Ben’s trademark pop craftsmanship and sense of humor.  Complete with catchy hooks and sing-along chorus, the song features Ben’s future stepdaughter on pots and pans as well as backing vocals.

Ben Lee has been living as a working musician for over half of his lifetime.  Beginning at the age of 14, he has stayed grounded and spiritually focused.  Aside from the honor of winning four ARIA Awards (Australia’s equivalent to the Grammy), Ben has started to make regular appearances with various symphony orchestras throughout Australia.  Following the first set of sold out symphony performances with the Western Australian Symphony Orchestra, Ben will play with the Queensland Orchestra in Brisbane featuring hits such as “Catch My Disease,” “Cigarettes Will Kill You,” “We’re All In This Together,” and more.  He also wrote and produced the original soundtrack to the film “The Square,” which is nominated for Best Soundtrack at the 2008 AFI Awards (Australian Equivalent to the Academy Awards).

Ben’s songs have been used in over 30 film, TV and commercial syncs off his last two albums.  In the last year he’s had syncs on “Grey’s Anatomy,” “One Tree Hill,” and Kohl’s Department Stores in the US and Coca Cola internationally.  His music was also recently used in the trailer for “He’s Just Not That Into You,” starring Ben Affleck, Jennifer Anniston, Drew Barrymore and Scarlett Johansson.  Awake is the New Sleep (Ben’s first release for New West Records) garnered rave reviews, career-high worldwide sales, and a hit in the track “Catch My Disease.”  The album went Double Platinum in Australia, where the single went on to become the first ever independently released #1 radio song in Australian history and went Top 10 in Canada, Spain and the Benelux, and Top 20 in the US.

TOM MORELLO: THE NIGHTWATCHMAN RELEASES ANTICIPATED SOLO ALBUM, THE FABLED CITY; NATIONAL TOUR TO FEATURE BOTH ACOUSTIC AND FULL-BAND ELECTRIC SETS

APPEARANCE SET FOR THE NEW YORKER FESTIVAL IN NYC OCTOBER 4th

“The Rage Against The Machine guitarist’s remarkable transformation from purveyor of weapons-grade funk-metal riffs into introspective protest folkie yields even more impressive fruit on his second solo effort.  A-” Entertainment Weekly

September 29th, 2008 -- New York, NY -- Tom Morello of Rage Against the Machine is set to release his anticipated solo album, The Fabled City, on September 30th.  The 11-song album, produced by Brendan O’Brien (Bruce Springsteen, Pearl Jam), is the first release to bear the political and social activist’s birth name and features appearances by System of a Down’s Serj Tankian and Shooter Jennings.  With more complex electric arrangements than displayed on the sparse solo debut One Man Revolution, The Fabled City is the synthesis of his groundbreaking work as an innovative rock guitarist and revolutionary acoustic troubadour.  For the first time, this album bridges the gap between Tom Morello, the acoustic protest singer and Tom Morello, the guitar legend.

The tour in support of The Fabled City will display both sides of Morello’s guitar prowess with both an acoustic set and full-band electric set performed each night.  In regards to the format of the performances, Morello stated “On The Fabled City Tour, I will be playing both acoustic and electric guitar.  I want to start off with the darker acoustic songs and then build to some of the wildest electric guitar playing I have ever unleashed on stage in my career.  The idea is half Dylan/Half Hendrix.  I have been practicing my ass off and can’t wait to rock.”

In addition to the tour, Tom Morello has been confirmed to appear at the annual New Yorker Festival in New York City on Saturday, October 4th. Morello will be performing songs and talking with James Surowiecki, staff writer at The New Yorker since 2000.  The performance and interview takes place at the Acura Stage at Cedar Lake Theatre, 547 West 26th Street.  For more information: http://www.festival.newyorker.com/.

TOM MORELLO OF RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE TO RELEASE ANTICIPATED SOLO ALBUM, THE FABLED CITY, SEPTEMBER 30th, 2008 VIA EPIC RECORDS

11-SONG SET FEATURES APPEARANCES BY SYSTEM OF A DOWN'S SERJ TANKIAN AND SHOOTER JENNINGS

June 30th, 2008 -- New York, New York -- Tom Morello of Rage Against the Machine is set to release the solo album, The Fabled City, September 30th, 2008 via Epic Records.  The 11-song set is the anticipated follow up to the 2007 The Nightwatchman debut One Man Revolution.  Now being billed as Tom Morello : The Nightwatchman, the album is the first release to bear the political and social activist's birth name. The Fabled City was produced by Brendan O'Brien (Bruce Springsteen, Pearl Jam) and features appearances by System Of A Down's Serj Tankian and Shooter Jennings.

In addition to his career as a critically acclaimed solo artist, Tom Morello is a founding member and guitarist of the rock bands Rage Against The Machine and Audioslave.  The two bands are responsible for multiple Grammy Awards and a combined 30 million albums sold worldwide.  Widely known for his unique voice as a master electric guitarist, his compositions as Tom Morello : The Nightwatchman have been primarily based around the acoustic guitar. However, as his Myspace page firmly states, “You don’t have to be loud, son, to be heavy as shit,” and the stories and sounds presented throughout the album showcases a depth and intelligence rarely heard in the modern musical climate surrounding it.  With more complex electric arrangements than displayed on One Man Revolution, The Fabled City is the synthesis of his groundbreaking work as an innovative rock guitarist and revolutionary acoustic troubadour.

When describing The Fabled City, Morello stated "My goal was to capture the energy and emotion of The Nightwatchman live shows. There is a much more rocking quality to this record, solos and riffs, mixed with darker acoustic songs. I think my singing has come a long way as well. I had a lot of devastating losses of family and friends during the past two years and The Fabled City is a search for hope through music and confronting injustice."

In the spring of 2008, Morello launched The Justice Tour, a nationwide concert tour formed in celebration of the 60th Anniversary of The Human Rights Declaration.  The tour, which featured performances from Perry Farrell, Slash, Dave Navarro, Jerry Cantrell of Alice in Chains, Wayne Kramer of the MC5, Sen-Dog of Cypress Hill and more, visited cities with a day dedicated to a local charity and a rock show to benefit that charity at each stop.  The tour performances were an extension of the periodic residency he has presided over for the past two years at the intimate Los Angeles, CA venue, Hotel Cafe, and included live performances of many songs from The Fabled City.

Recognized by Rolling Stone Magazine as one of the "100 Greatest Guitar Players of All-Time (#26)," Morello is one of only two guitarists featured as a playable animated character in the overwhelmingly popular Activision video game Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock.

Tom Morello graduated from Harvard University with honors as a Political Science major and has been a widely recognized political activist throughout his career.  In 2006, he was the recipient of the Eleanor Roosevelt Human Rights Award.  Morello's family has been a constant source of political and social inspiration as his great-uncle, Jomo Kenyatta was the first president of Kenya, and his mother, Mary Morello, founded Parents for Rock and Rap, an anti-censorship counterweight to Tipper Gore's PMRC (Parents Music Resource Center).  With System of A Down’s Serj Tankian, Morello formed Axis of Justice, an organization whose purpose is to bring together musicians, music fans, and grassroots political organizations to fight for social justice and hosts it’s inspired radio show, The Axis of Justice Radio Network.

As a producer, Morello has worked with The Crystal Method, Anti-Flag, Puff Daddy, and many more.  He has also scored compositions for major motion pictures such as the 2008 hit Iron Man (where he can also be seen as an actor), The Matrix, Collateral, Charlie's Angels, Talladega Nights, XXX: State of the Union and more.

In the summer of 2008, Morello and Rage Against The Machine will headline many European Music Festivals with a headlining performance on August 2nd at the Lollapalooza Festival in Chicago, IL.

Tom Morello : The Nightwatchman will be touring heavily throughout 2008 and 2009 in support of The Fabled City.

OLD 97'S PLACE BLAME ON MAY 13th

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

OLD 97's RETURN HOME FOR BLAME IT ON GRAVITY,FIRST NEW ALBUM IN 4 YEARS TO BE RELEASED MAY 13th, 2008

TO APPEAR AT SXSW IN MARCH, THREE WEEK NATIONAL CLUB TOUR TO FOLLOW IN JUNE

March 4th, 2008 -- New York, NY -- Old 97's, one of the most acclaimed and beloved bands to spring from the 90s indie rock scene, will release their seventh studio album, Blame It On Gravity, May 13th via New West Records.  The album is the band's first studio recording in 4 years. The result is a 13-song powerhouse of an album that finds the band turning up the amps and returning to the satisfying crunch of its early records.

Forming 15 years ago, the band credits the new album's enthusiasm and spark to their return to its native Dallas to record for the first time since their debut independent release.  Produced by up and coming producer, Salim Nourallah, the album superbly combines the various elements of rock, punk, classic country and pop displayed on previous releases. The collection is easily the band's most well-rounded stack of songs recorded for a single offering to date.   Blame It On Gravity represents the quality of song-craft fans have come to expect from the 97's past albums and is also reminiscent of the intensity, drive and bona fide joy found on cult favorite and major label debut Too Far To Care.

"We went into Salim's studio hellbent on making something great," says vocalist/guitarist/principal-songwriter Rhett Miller.  "I could feel the energy crackling every day we were in there.  It's like we had something to prove.  Not just to ourselves, but to the world.  Music should be real and meaningful.  And while there is a weird, dangerous element to the stories in some of these songs, at its core Blame It On Gravity is a celebration of the brotherhood that is our band and a testament to our belief in the transcendent power of rock and roll."

Old 97's are comprised of: Rhett Miller, bassist/vocalist Murry Hammond, lead guitarist Ken Bethea and drummer Philip Peeples.

Blame It On Gravity's
first single, "Dance With Me," is a romantic, infectious track that  showcases Miller's classic storytelling prowess (the track is now streaming at the band's My Space page www.myspace.com/theold97s)   Other highlights include the stellar and immediate "My Two Feet," and the catchy "Ride," which takes listeners on a coast to coast journey to escape an unrequited love.  The album also showcases two fantastic Hammond contributions, "This Beautiful Thing," and "Color Of A Lonely Heart Is Blue."

Since the 97's last studio release, 2004's Drag It Up, the band has released a double live album, Alive and Wired, a live DVD, and appeared prominently in the romantic comedy The Breakup after being written into the script by longtime fan and supporter Vince Vaughn.

Well known as an explosive live act, the Old 97's will be in Austin, TX this year at South By Southwest.  Following the release of the new album, the band will headline a three week nationwide club tour with dates to be announced soon.

Working Man's Cafe
, focuses on the plight of the worker, the every day man around the world.  It is Davies' "American record" (many of the songs were written and all produced in the US) describing the changes he's seen in this country since he first started visiting in the ‘60s.  In a recent four star Mojo Magazine review Davies is described as having "a tourist's blend of enchantment and bafflement" when writing about the United States.  In the album's reflective title song, Davies goes to buy a pair of new jeans but ends up getting lost in a shopping mall which is full of chain stores and brand named coffee houses.  The album is also driven by love and relationships which is especially apparent in "Imaginary Man," where Davies warns a woman not to get involved with him because "she doesn't really know what she's getting."

Davies, one of Britain's pre-eminent songwriters, uses all situations he finds himself in as inspiration for songs, especially difficult times.  "Morphine," was written when Davies was in the Intensive Care unit at Charity Hospital-Louisiana State University after being attacked and shot in New Orleans.  The song helped Davies work through the fear of being in the hospital and the pain from the shooting.

Davies plans to visit the US and Canada in January to do advance promotion for the album and will return for extensive touring beginning in the spring throughout North America.
